Quick thoughts on the Dogeaters play:
- The way the actors delivered their lines seemed forced, it sounded... unwieldy, if that makes sense. But then again, it was their first night.
- Standout performances by Chari Arespacochaga, Joel Torre, Gina Alajar and Jon Santos.
- Well, I didn't expect that Dogeaters would be a novel that would exactly be performed as is. The book's story wasn't told in a linear way. As Sir Charlson Ong (who I sat beside in the theater) said, it was more of a pastiche kind of thing.
- Need to finish the book.
- The language was easy to understand, yes. As I was reading the taglish and the coño English, I could easily imagine the characters saying it with a flourish. On stage, not so. (Again, first night perhaps...)
- You'd get the play if you were aware of the book, of course. Otherwise, you'd be lost in it. So, I'd suggest reading the book first before watching the play.
